Being broke is hard. But being broke and mentally drained is something else entirely.
I’ve been there, staring at bills, fridge half-full, and not enough left over to even think straight. That’s why I put together this list of real, low-energy ways to make money fast — even if you feel overwhelmed, tired, or stuck.
These are not scams, not surveys, and not get-rich-quick schemes. They’re things you can actually start this week to bring in real cash.
1. Declutter and Sell the Stuff You Forgot You Owned
Start with a single drawer, basket, or closet. Look for:
- Clothes (especially kids’ clothes in bundles)
- Kitchen tools or appliances
- Books or DVDs
- Toys
- Baby gear
- Seasonal decor
Where to sell:
- Facebook Marketplace (instant cash, porch pickup)
- Local buy & sell groups on Facebook
- Kijiji
- Poshmark (clothes), Vinted, or eBay for higher value stuff
Start with 5 items. List them fast and don’t over price them. You’d be shocked how quickly it adds up.

2. Offer One-Time Services in Local Groups
You don’t need to launch a business, just post a simple offer in a local group:
“Looking to make extra money this week — happy to clean, organize, do yardwork, or errands.” People often want help but don’t know who to ask.
Quick jobs to offer:
- House cleaning
- Yard work/gardening
- Organizing closets
- Assembling furniture
- Babysitting for an evening
- Pet walking/sitting
- Grocery pickup for an elderly neighbor
3. Flip Free Stuff
This hack SAVED ME when I was broke and struggling to pay rent. I literally would take furniture outside of dumpsters that was in good shape and sell it. FREE MONEY!
Go to:
- Facebook Marketplace → Filter: Price $0
- “Free” section of Craigslist or Kijiji
- Curb alerts or local trash day (this is where I scored big!)
Find furniture, decor, baby items, clean it, take better photos, resell it for $10–$50.
⚡️ Bonus tip: Add “refinished” or “gently used” to make it stand out.
4.Apply for Grocery Rebate Apps (and Use Them Today)
Even if you don’t qualify for cash jobs, you can earn small bits of money back on things you already buy.
Top apps:
- Checkout 51
- Fetch Rewards
- Receipt Hog
- Rakuten (for online purchases)
Upload receipts, earn points, redeem for gift cards or PayPal. It won’t make you rich, but it’s money you’d otherwise lose.
5. Do Simple Writing Gigs or Reviews
Even if you’re not a “writer,” you can:
- Review products on Fiverr
- Help someone rewrite their resume or bio
- Submit tips to real blogs (many pay $25–$100 per post!)
Try:

6. Make & Sell Simple Printables or Journals (Even Without Design Skills)
Use Canva (free) to make a simple easy digital product. Do you have a profession, skill, or something you’ve learned that you can make a cheat sheet for? Or you can try:
- Budget trackers
- Chore charts
- “Low-spend month” planners
- Meal planning templates
- Gratitude journals
Sell them on:
- Etsy
- Payhip
- Or even directly through your own blog or Instagram
It only takes 1 good product to start bringing in passive income. It’s free to make. Every dollar is profit! You see a lot of people talk about this online – because it works!
7. Become a Pinterest or Canva Assistant
You don’t need 10 years of experience. If you:
- Know how to use Canva
- Understand how pins work
- Can write short text and make things look nice
…you can offer $50–$100/month Pinterest services to bloggers. Post in FB groups, Fiverr, or message smaller bloggers who aren’t using Pinterest at all yet.
8. Join Paid Market Research Studies (Legit Ones)
You can earn $20–$100+ for 30–60 minute calls or product tests.
Trusted options:
- Respondent.io
- User Interviews
- FocusGroup.com
- Prolific (for surveys that don’t suck)
It’s quiet work — perfect for introverts or moms during nap time.
9. Start a One-Weekend Laundry or Cleaning Pickup Service
Say this:
“Doing laundry and folding for a few families this weekend — message me if you’re overwhelmed and need help.”
It’s low-cost, people are desperate, and even $20–$30 a load can add up. Use Canva FREE to make an online business card/logo and set up a free Facebook page!

10. Ask For Help. Trade. Barter. Swap.
This isn’t a job — it’s a survival move. Ask a friend or family member if they need anything in exchange for:
- Gas money
- Grocery help
- A ride to an appointment
- Babysitting time
Sometimes the fastest way to earn is to offer yourself with honesty.
You’d be surprised how many people are willing to pay or trade for exactly what you can offer.
You Don’t Have to Hustle Like You’re Fine
If you’re broke and overwhelmed, you need ways to make money that don’t cost more energy than you have.
Start with one. One drawer to declutter. One app to use. One service to offer.
You don’t need to “launch a brand” — you just need to make $20 today. Then do it again tomorrow.
You got this! Small steps, big rewards.
